We are sure you have many questions about orthodontic care, therefore, we have gathered the following information for you.

FIRST VISIT: Evaluation (15 Minutes)

It is our desire to answer questions about you, or your child’s bite problem or “malocclusion” on the first visit, which we call the evaluation.

Our major objective is to determine IF treatment is needed and if so, WHEN treatment should begin. In children, treatment is determined by stage of development not age. Some patients should be treated when the primary (baby) teeth are present; others should wait until the permanent teeth have erupted. When the evaluation is completed, the following questions will have been discussed:
  •  Is there an orthodontic problem?
  •  If so, what is the nature of the problem?
  •  Can it be corrected?
  •  When should it be corrected?
  •  Approximately how long will it take to correct the problem?
Depending on Dr. Irigoyen’s findings, one of the following recommendations will be made:
  •  Wait. It is too early to make any improvements at this time.
A re-evaluation will be made in 3-12 months.
  •  Compile Diagnostic Records. Treatment may be needed now.
Therefore, a complete diagnosis is necessary utilizing 2-3 x-rays,
photographs of the face and teeth, models of the teeth
     and a growth analysis.
  •  The length of time for the treatment, patient responsibilities
and financial arrangements will also be discussed.
SECOND VISIT: Diagnostic Records (30 Minutes)

At this appointment you will receive a thorough examination of your teeth and mouth and the following will be performed:
  •  Cephalometric (head), Panoramic (jaw) and other x-rays if applicable.
  •  Impressions of your teeth to make study models and registration
     of the bite.
  •  Photographs of the face and teeth.
  •  Comprehensive clinical evaluation.
  •  Sign Federal Truth in Lending, insurance forms and treatment summary.
THIRD VISIT: Consultation (30 minutes)
  •  If needed spacers will be placed in order to begin treatment
during the next appointment. Spacers (separators) help create a
space between the molars for the fitting of bands on
     the following appointment.
  •  We will discuss the specific problem and our plan of treatment.

FOURTH VISIT: Bonding of Braces (2 Hours)

Treatment begins and braces will be placed. You will receive an orthodontic payment booklet at this time. Before Dr. Irigoyen starts treatment, you will probably need to visit your general dentist for cleanings and to check for cavities. While you are in braces you will need to see your dentist every 3-6 months for cleaning and check-ups. It is important that your teeth and gums stay healthy.
